HACTO-Screen Project

The HACTO-Screen project is part of this project and was designed to identify the scientific skills, research merits and preferences in terms of topics and types of resources of this group through a cross-sectional observational study.

To understand the scientific skills, research merits and preferences in terms of topics and types of resources of Spanish-speaking occupational therapists.

HACTO-Screen – Project

The acquisition of scientific skills for the application of evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered an essential part of health education programmes to improve clinical effectiveness. An examination of the scientific skills of occupational therapists can be useful in understanding their current practice, as well as providing a basis for applying appropriate approaches to the development and implementation of EBP. Therefore, this study was designed with two main objectives: (1) to describe the level of scientific skills acquisition and academic performance in Spanish-speaking occupational therapists; (2) to examine the factors associated with these skills. The Scientific Skills Screening for Occupational Therapists, HACTO-Screen, is a cross-sectional online survey divided into five sections: sociodemographic data, academic and professional background; assessment of scientific skills; training and development needs in research; experience as a researcher and/or academic.

Recruitment

Participants were recruited between 15 April and 15 June 2020 by completing a Google Forms questionnaire, after giving their informed consent.

Participation

A total sample of 1,159 occupational therapists participated. The main associations will be analysed using multiple linear regression and/or Poisson models with/without robust variance. Our findings will provide valuable information on research skills and associated factors in a large sample of Spanish-speaking occupational therapists.
