It is a fundamental part of research, as it ensures that scientific evidence does not remain exclusively within specialised academic circles, but instead generates a broader impact on the general population.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">However, a gap exists between scientific production and its translation to society. Research published in scientific articles is written in highly technical language that is difficult to understand for those without training in the relevant field. This divide limits the ability of the general public and professionals from other disciplines to understand the advances being made.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This entry therefore explores the importance of scientific dissemination and presents a range of strategies and resources for bringing occupational science and occupational therapy research to society in an accessible and effective way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Why is it important to disseminate research findings?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Disseminating research findings acts as a bridge between science and the general public. By transforming information into accessible content, the following aspects are strengthened:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Promoting accessible knowledge<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Adapting research into understandable language is key to enabling active public participation. In doing so, a more informed and proactive society is fostered in the face of different challenges, contributing to empowerment regardless of individual academic background. In short, presenting information in an accessible way enables citizens to make evidence-based decisions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Encouraging impact and social change<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Communicating findings in a comprehensible way encourages the application of science to people&#8217;s daily lives, promoting community well-being \u2014 for example, by providing information related to health and the environment. It also supports evidence-based decision-making by policymakers and professionals. In this sense, scientific dissemination allows society to benefit from long-term improvements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Strategies for scientific dissemination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">When disseminating scientific knowledge, it is important to consider a set of strategies that facilitate understanding of the information to be conveyed. Some of these strategies include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Use of clear, accessible language and adaptation of the message to the target audience<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To ensure that information is clear and comprehensible to all audiences, it is important to adjust the terminology used. Additionally, depending on the target audience \u2014 which may include professionals, patients, family members, or the general public \u2014 adaptations in terms of content focus are necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Incorporation of visual content<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Using infographics, videos, and other visual resources can help to communicate information clearly and simply, making more technical content easier to understand. For further details, see the section on  <em>Infographics, videos, and dissemination platforms.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Scientific dissemination channels<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">A number of channels are currently available that allow different audiences to be reached, facilitating the transfer of information to society. Some of the channels for scientific dissemination include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Blogs and social media<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Today we have access to widely used digital platforms. For those working in research, making their work known to society is becoming increasingly important. From this perspective, social media and blogs are a useful tool. Their advantages include ease of use, the ability to reach large audiences, speed, and accessibility from any location at any time. This is a two-way channel, as the audience can respond, encouraging debate and reflection. It should be noted that, given these characteristics, they must be used with caution to avoid the spread of misinformation or &#8220;fake news.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Podcasts<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Podcasts are a good option for disseminating information in an engaging and accessible way. This channel allows concepts to be explained in plain language, facilitating understanding, and gives listeners the freedom to choose when to tune in \u2014 it is also compatible with carrying out other activities while listening. This dissemination channel is closely linked to social media, as podcast episodes can now be promoted through these platforms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Conferences<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Conferences can provide spaces aimed at both professionals and the general public, creating opportunities for the exchange of ideas and debate. One of their main advantages is that they facilitate connections between researchers, professionals, and members of the public with an interest in the topic, creating enriching meeting points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Scientific events<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">These settings can offer valuable opportunities for scientific dissemination. Examples of scientific events include Science Fairs, which are held annually in different cities. Other events include the European Researchers&#8217; Night and dedicated science days in schools, secondary schools, and universities, among others. Working with these outlets, it is possible to produce news features, reports, interviews, and discussion panels, among other formats. Collaborations of this kind help to transform ideas into information that is easy to understand and engaging (an example of a YouTube collaboration  &#8211; TEDx Talk can be viewed here:  <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/894jQkeewiU?si=qkFHCyTLzLPw7UgN\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/894jQkeewiU?si=qkFHCyTLzLPw7UgN<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em>Infographics, videos, and dissemination platforms\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The use of infographics helps to simplify and communicate information in a more visual format. One of the defining characteristics of infographics is their combined use of visual material and written information, which promotes understanding of complex concepts in an accessible and even entertaining way (for further information, previous evidence can be consulted at: <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33342338\/\">https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33342338\/<\/a>). Given their characteristics, they can be a tool for bringing science closer to all audiences, particularly younger ones. In these settings, complex concepts can be transformed into hands-on experiences for citizens \u2014 such as workshops, short videos, and talks (an example of initiatives carried out by museums can be found at: <a href=\"https:\/\/mudic.es\/actividades\/#teatro\">https:\/\/mudic.es\/actividades\/#teatro<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In summary, scientific dissemination improves access to our findings for both the community and professionals. For the community, having access to comprehensible information can facilitate evidence-based decision-making and improve daily life. We also believe it is important to bring these dissemination activities to the public from an early age, encouraging children to see themselves as active agents in their own health. For professionals, this information can promote the integration of advances into everyday clinical practice. Es una parte fundamental de la investigaci\u00f3n, ya que garantiza que la evidencia cient\u00edfica no se quede exclusivamente en el \u00e1mbito especializado en esa \u00e1rea de conocimiento, sino que genere un impacto m\u00e1s amplio en la poblaci\u00f3n general.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sin embargo, existe un vac\u00edo entre la producci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica y su traslado a la sociedad. Las investigaciones publicadas en art\u00edculos cient\u00edficos est\u00e1n redactadas con un lenguaje muy t\u00e9cnico y poco comprensible para personas sin formaci\u00f3n en el tema o \u00e1rea. Esta brecha limita que el p\u00fablico general y los profesionales de otras disciplinas comprendan los avances que se van obteniendo.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por ello, en esta entrada vamos a indagar sobre la importancia de la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica. Adem\u00e1s, presentaremos diversas estrategias y recursos para acercar la ciencia ocupacional y la investigaci\u00f3n en terapia ocupacional a la sociedad de manera accesible y efectiva.<\/p><h4><strong>\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 es importante divulgar los resultados de investigaci\u00f3n?<\/strong><\/h4><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La divulgaci\u00f3n de los resultados de las investigaciones act\u00faa como un puente entre la ciencia y la poblaci\u00f3n en general. Al transformar la informaci\u00f3n en contenido accesible, se fortalecen los siguientes aspectos:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Promover el conocimiento accesible<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adaptar las investigaciones a un lenguaje comprensible es clave para la participaci\u00f3n activa de la poblaci\u00f3n. De tal manera, se promueve una sociedad m\u00e1s informada y proactiva frente a diferentes problem\u00e1ticas contribuyendo a su empoderamiento, independientemente de la formaci\u00f3n acad\u00e9mica individual. En definitiva, presentar la informaci\u00f3n de manera accesible permite que la ciudadan\u00eda pueda tomar decisiones basadas en la evidencia.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Fomentar el impacto y cambio social<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Divulgar los resultados de manera comprensible fomenta la aplicaci\u00f3n de la ciencia a la vida cotidiana de la poblaci\u00f3n, promoviendo el bienestar de la comunidad (por ejemplo, proporcionando informaci\u00f3n relacionada con la salud y el medio ambiente). Adem\u00e1s, favorece la toma de decisiones basadas en la evidencia por parte de entes pol\u00edticos y profesionales. En este sentido, la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica permite que la sociedad se beneficie de mejoras a largo plazo.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Estrategias para la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, es importante tener en cuenta una serie de estrategias que favorezca la comprensi\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n que queremos transmitir. Algunas de las estrategias son:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Uso de un lenguaje claro y accesible. Adaptaci\u00f3n del mensaje seg\u00fan el p\u00fablico objetivo<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para asegurar que la informaci\u00f3n sea clara y comprensible para todos los p\u00fablicos, es importante ajustar los t\u00e9rminos usados. Adem\u00e1s, dependiendo del p\u00fablico objetivo (por ejemplo, pueden ser profesionales, pacientes, familiares o poblaci\u00f3n en general), es necesario realizar adaptaciones respecto al enfoque del contenido que se quiere transmitir.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Incorporaci\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n gr\u00e1fica<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Usar infograf\u00edas, v\u00eddeos, y otros recursos visuales puede ayudar a entender y transmitir la informaci\u00f3n de manera clara y sencilla, facilitando la comprensi\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s t\u00e9cnica. Para m\u00e1s detalles, consulta el apartado de <em>Infograf\u00edas, v\u00eddeos y plataformas de divulgaci\u00f3n.<\/em><\/p><h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Canales de divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica<\/strong><\/h4><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Actualmente contamos con varias opciones de canales que permiten llegar a diferentes audiencias, facilitando el traslado de la informaci\u00f3n a la sociedad. Algunos de los canales para la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica son:<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Blogs y redes sociales<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hoy en d\u00eda contamos con plataformas digitales ampliamente utilizadas. Para las personas que trabajan en el \u00e1mbito cient\u00edfico, cada vez es m\u00e1s importante dar a conocer a la sociedad las investigaciones. Desde este punto de vista, las redes sociales y los blogs son una herramienta \u00fatil. Entre sus ventajas destacan la facilidad de uso, la posibilidad de llegar a p\u00fablicos masivos, la rapidez y la posibilidad de utilizarse en cualquier lugar y momento. Se trata de un canal bidireccional, ya que el p\u00fablico puede producir una respuesta, fomentando el debate y la reflexi\u00f3n. Cabe destacar que, debido a sus caracter\u00edsticas, es fundamental usarlas con precauci\u00f3n para evitar la difusi\u00f3n de bulos o \u201cfake news\u201d.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Podcasts<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los podcasts son una buena opci\u00f3n para divulgar informaci\u00f3n de forma amena y accesible. Este canal permite explicar conceptos con un lenguaje sencillo, facilitando su comprensi\u00f3n, y ofrecen al oyente la libertad de elegir cu\u00e1ndo escuchar el cap\u00edtulo; adem\u00e1s, es compatible con la realizaci\u00f3n de otras actividades durante su escucha. Este canal de divulgaci\u00f3n est\u00e1 relacionado con las redes sociales, ya que actualmente la promoci\u00f3n de los cap\u00edtulos se puede llevar a cabo a trav\u00e9s de ellas.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>Congresos<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los congresos pueden disponer de espacios dirigidos a profesionales y al p\u00fablico en general, creando oportunidades de intercambio de ideas y debates. Una de sus principales ventajas es la de facilitar la conexi\u00f3n entre investigadores\/as, profesionales y ciudadanos\/as interesados\/as en la tem\u00e1tica, creando puntos de encuentro enriquecedores.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Eventos cient\u00edficos<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estos espacios pueden proporcionar oportunidades para la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica. Algunos ejemplos de eventos cient\u00edficos pueden ser las Ferias de la Ciencia, que se realizan anualmente en diferentes ciudades. Adem\u00e1s, existen otros eventos como la Noche Europea de los Investigadores y d\u00edas dedicados a la ciencia en las escuelas, institutos y universidades, entre otros (puedes ver un ejemplo de un taller realizado en la Feria de la Ciencia y Tecnolog\u00eda de Elche desde el Grupo InTeO en: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FTRGt5avK24\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FTRGt5avK24<\/a>).<\/p><p><img class=\"size-full wp-image-3353 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/hacto.umh.es\/files\/2025\/03\/Imagen2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"366\" \/> <img class=\"size-full wp-image-3356 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/hacto.umh.es\/files\/2025\/03\/Imagen1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p><p><em>Colaboraciones con diferentes medios<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Canales como la radio, los peri\u00f3dicos, la televisi\u00f3n y entrevistas en plataformas como YouTube son \u00fatiles para llegar a la poblaci\u00f3n. Trabajando con estos medios, se pueden realizar noticias, reportajes, entrevistas, y\/o coloquios, entre otros. Las colaboraciones de este tipo ayudan a transformar las ideas a informaci\u00f3n f\u00e1cil de entender y atractiva (puedes ver un ejemplo de colaboraci\u00f3n en YouTube - TEDx Talk: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/894jQkeewiU?si=qkFHCyTLzLPw7UgN\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/894jQkeewiU?si=qkFHCyTLzLPw7UgN<\/a>).<\/p><p><em>Infograf\u00edas, v\u00eddeos y plataformas de divulgaci\u00f3n\u00a0<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">El uso de infograf\u00edas ayuda a simplificar y comunicar la informaci\u00f3n en un formato m\u00e1s visual. Una de las principales caracter\u00edsticas de las infograf\u00edas es el uso tanto de material visual como de informaci\u00f3n redactada, para favorecer la comprensi\u00f3n de conceptos complejos, de forma accesible e incluso entretenida (para m\u00e1s informaci\u00f3n, puedes leer la evidencia previa en: <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33342338\/\">https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/33342338\/<\/a>). Infograf\u00eda realizada por el Grupo InTeO[\/caption]<p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">De la misma manera, la confecci\u00f3n de v\u00eddeos para la divulgaci\u00f3n de informaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica puede ser un canal \u00fatil para llegar la poblaci\u00f3n (puedes ver un ejemplo realizado por el Grupo InTeO en el siguiente enlace: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uT_981Ugie0?si=YrLd79goFVtNZ15-\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/uT_981Ugie0?si=YrLd79goFVtNZ15-<\/a>).<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por \u00faltimo, plataformas de divulgaci\u00f3n como <a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/es\">https:\/\/theconversation.com\/es<\/a> pueden ser efectivas ya que utilizan estrategias audiovisuales para transformar la ciencia en contenido llamativo y accesible al p\u00fablico.<\/p><p><em>Museos<\/em><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los museos pueden ser un espacio para fomentar la curiosidad y el pensamiento cr\u00edtico.\u00a0 Debido a sus caracter\u00edsticas, puede ser una herramienta para acercar la ciencia a todos los p\u00fablicos, especialmente al p\u00fablico infantil. En este tipo de entornos, se pueden transformar conceptos complejos en experiencias vivenciales para los\/as ciudadanos\/as, como por ejemplo talleres, v\u00eddeos cortos y charlas (puedes ver un ejemplo de iniciativas llevadas a cabo por museos en: <a href=\"https:\/\/mudic.es\/actividades\/#teatro\">https:\/\/mudic.es\/actividades\/#teatro<\/a>).<\/p><h4><strong>Conclusi\u00f3n<\/strong><\/h4><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">En definitiva, la divulgaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica mejora el acceso a nuestros resultados por parte de la comunidad y profesionales. Para la comunidad, disponer de informaci\u00f3n comprensible puede facilitar la toma de decisiones basada en la evidencia y mejorar su d\u00eda a d\u00eda. Adem\u00e1s, creemos que es importante acercar estos eventos divulgativos a la poblaci\u00f3n ya desde edades tempranas, promoviendo que los los\/as ni\u00f1os\/as se consideren agentes activos de su propia salud. Por otra parte, para los profesionales, esta informaci\u00f3n puede fomentar la inclusi\u00f3n de los avances en la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica diaria.
